A Brief Hello
About Me
I’m a Philadelphia writer and teacher, and a resident of this building. I’ve taught writing for many years, and these days I write and publish full time. I run a small literary press, Silver Current Press, which is where the handouts for this course are prepared.
What I care about, after all this time, is how a piece of writing earns the reader’s trust. In nonfiction that trust is everything: the reader believes that what we say happened, happened. This course is about keeping that promise beautifully.

A Closing Note
A building like ours is a small city. Hundreds of lives have passed through its lobby since 1939. We will never tell all of their stories, but we can tell some of our own — and learn, in the telling, how every form of nonfiction is a way of paying attention. I am glad you are here.
