The Shared Project
The 2601 Anthology
Under One Roof: Lives at 2601 — a collective memoir written by the residents who take this course.
From the first session, every assignment can become a contribution. At the end of the course we choose, revise, and order the pieces together. The anthology is shared only with the consent of every contributor and every living person named in it.
The Four Sections
- Arrivals. Place essays, moving-day personal essays, and memoir scenes (Sessions 1–3).
- Neighbors. Flash pieces, approved portraits, and oral histories (Sessions 4–6).
- The Building. Braided and researched essays, essays on the lobby mural and the art across the Parkway, and hermit crab pieces made from the building’s own forms (Sessions 7–9).
- The View from the Roof. Revised reflections written for the final session (Session 10).
Submitting a Piece
- One to three pieces per writer, each up to about 2,000 words.
- A signed consent form for every living person named or quoted.
- A one-sentence contributor note, in whatever form you prefer.
The Closing Reading
If the class wishes, we will close with a reading for residents, family, and friends — volunteers only.
